We are happy to announce that the 8th Autonomous Racing Workshop (ARWo) will take place at the University of Technology Hamburg (TUHH) on 28.3.–30.3.2025!
The Autonomous Racing Workshop (ARWo) is a weekend-long conference about Formula Student Driverless. More than 40 Formula Student teams from all over Europe as well as industry partners come together for an informal exchange – talk, learn, share and have a lot of fun!
During the workshop, participating teams present and discuss their developments and open questions, give and receive valuable feedback to improve their systems. Our workshop partners from the industry add their perspective on autonomous driving in presentations and workshops and bring their experts to the scene.
The ARWo is organized by current and former members of e-gnition. We invite all current and aspiring Formula Student Driverless teams to join the next ARWo in Hamburg, free of charge!

Team Registration Overview
This is your quick guide to ARWo. Please find all the details further down!
- Congratulations! You have decided to join the next ARWo.
- Register the team: The team representative for the ARWo registers the team in our web app.
- Register team members: Team members create an account and join their team. Note that having an account is not yet a ticket for the ARWo!
- Create event contributions: The workshop only works with your contributions! Contributions can gain you additional tickets.
- Ticket allocation: Once your tickets are confirmed in the web app after the ticket allocation date, organize your travel. Please do not book any travel beforehand.
- Create your poster: Send us your poster about your overall driverless concept for the poster session on Friday. This is a requirement for team participation in the workshop. And don’t forget to prepare your presentations as well!
- At the workshop: Have a productive and fun time at the ARWo! The schedule in the web app will guide you through the workshop. Additional presentations and discussions can still be registered during the workshop.

ARWo Concept
The Autonomous Racing Workshop is all about knowledge exchange. We provide the framework — you bring the knowledge to fill it! Therefore participation is tied to contribution. The following information will give yout a good idea of what to expect at the ARWo. Detailed participant information can be found below.
What is happening at the ARWo?
On Friday evening, the workshop kicks off with a poster session, where each team presents their vehicle concept on a poster. This poster session helps all teams to see different concepts and spark some ideas for their own development. With food and drinks, you can also get to know each other and discuss the various concepts.
All teams are requested to prepare talks and discussions for the ARWo. Saturday and Sunday are packed with the workshop sessions. You can build your personal schedule out of all the presentations and discussions from the other teams in out web app.
Our sponsors also bring their experts and offer their perspective on autonomous driving in exclusive talks and discussions.
Between the sessions, the main hall offers food, drinks and a relaxed setting to meet. It is the perfect environment to connect with the other teams, discuss previous sessions and get in contact with our sponsors. Some say, this is what makes ARWo really special :)
The workshop concludes on Sunday afternoon.
Which topics are discussed at the ARWo?
You decide! You as participants bring the topics to the workshop! All topics related to Formula Student Driverless are welcome.
Who can come to the ARWo?
Rookie or seasoned expert, all Formula Student Driverless team members are welcome at the ARWo! Every team member can contribute to the workshop by sharing their knowledge in presentations and discussions about their field of interest, concepts and ideas. To encourage this, the amount of participating team members per team is tied to the amount of contributions.
When and where does the ARWo take Place?
The ARWo takes place at the University of Technology Hamburg, usually at the end of March. Please refer to the table above for specific information on the next rendition.
How is the ARWo Funded?
Participation at the Autonomous Racing Workshop is free of charge! There is a fee for food and drinks at the event location.

Participant Information
Contributions
You are the core and heart of ARWo! Bring your knowledge, your experience, your unknowns and questions to share and discuss with all the other teams in the amazing Formula Student Driverless community! Please bring your contribution in one of the following forms:
- Long presentation: 40 minutes presentation, 5 minutes questions.
- Short presentation: 15 minutes presentation, 5 minutes questions.
- Discussion: You introduce the topic and set up the discussion space for 5 minutes and then moderate the discussion for 40 minutes.
Contributions grant you additional workshop tickets.
The Poster Session
The poster session guarantees a kick start into the most important aspects of the workshop: connect and talk to people, exchance knowledge, discuss and have fun! Your poster should showcase your vehicle concept. If you are starting into the world of autonomous racing and don’t have a vehicle yet, bring your ideas to the table! The poster session is perfect to get early feedback from other teams. The concent of the poster is up to you, but we will distribute example posters to the registered teams for inspiration.
We will print and hang the posters for you! Please respect the following requirements:
- Send us the poster as a pdf file until the poster deadline!
- Design your poster in A0 format in upright portrait orientation.
- Your submitted print data must be 841mm x 1189mm PDF document. Please do not submit raster images!
- Keep 40 mm on top and bottom and 6 mm left and right free for printing and hanging. Here you can find a visualisation of the content bounding box.
- You are welcome to use this ARWo banner on your poster to add a little optical highlight if you like.
Schedule
When the workshop starts, you will find a schedule at our web app, from which you can generate your personal schedule. All times and rooms are marked on the web app and in the venue. The schedule consists of time slots. During each slots, several presentations and discussions take place in parallel.
Before the ARWo, we will ask you to select the presentations and discussion that you are interested in. This information helps us to select appropriate rooms and minimize conflicts between parallel sessions. You can of course change your selection at any time. Plase submit your selection, the schedule is only as good as the information you give us.
Tickets
Every team member needs a ticket even though attending the ARWo is free of charge. The ticket allocation follows this scheme (deviations are possible):
- Every team will initially have three ARWo tickets.
- Additional tickets can be gained by registering contributions.
- Old but gold — ARWo-Alumni, who have been to an ARWo in the last two years, have a free personal ticket.
- Each team gets at most 10 tickets in total, including Alumni tickets. (Additional alumni tickets may be granted, if capacity allows.)
Your estimated and confirmed tickets are visible on your team page. After the ticket allocation date, you will see your confirmed tickets and can assign them to your team members.
Food
Breakfast, snacks, beverages and warm dinner are available for a fee. You can choose your catering option up front in our web app during the registration period. Please pay by card at the registration desk on location at the ARWo.
Accomodation and Travel
ARWo has grown large. We cannot provide accomodation for so many people, but the beautiful city of Hamburg has a lot to offer. Please consider for the choice of your accommodation:
- All talks and official gatherings will be at the venue.
- Breakfast and food will be provided at the venue.
We recommend the area around the Hamburg Central Station, as it has a good connection to the venue as well as the nightlife.
Venue
The ARWo takes place at the University of Hamburg (TUHH). In building I, we have a large common room that is the central point of the workshop, where you can also find the reception. The workshop sessions take place in lecture halls and rooms on the campus. They are marked and we guide you there.
The TUHH is easily reached with public transport. Use the S3/S5 to Hamburg-Harburg Rathaus or bus 142 to Kasernenstraße (TU Hamburg). Parking is available at the venue.

How to ARWo?
This is of course a matter of choice. But here are some ideas:
- Be open. Share what you know — and what you don’t know. Use the opportunity to connect with other teams.
- Be prepared. Of course, your contributions should be well prepared. Apart from that, have your own questions ready and use the experts around you.
- Be prepared. Do read our e-mails and website. There’s a lot of useful information!
- Pick your topics. Find interesting topics for your contributions: Which smart approaches have you taken? Can you provide a profound introduction for some topics? Check out what other teams bring in the web app. If some topics overlap, consider to join forces.
- Pick your topics. The schedule will be packed with more than a person can take in. Go through the schedule once it’s online, select what is relevant for you, and coordinate within your team. Note that presentation recordings will be available afterwards.

As a conference for highly skilled and motivated engineering students from all over europe we are always looking for interested companies. Sponsors can support us in many different ways: A booth on the main hall lets you connect with the participants around you. Engage with the students in personal discussions and share your expertise and career opportunities with them. Content contributions are also welcome.
